Humantay Lake full day
The Humantay Lagoon is a natural jewel located in the foothills of the snow-capped Salkantay, at more than 4,200 meters above sea level. Its impressive turquoise color, surrounded by majestic mountains and Andean landscapes, makes it one of the most impressive destinations in Cusco. It is a perfect place to connect with nature, enjoy spectacular views and live an unforgettable experience in the Peruvian Andes.
Day 1 - Humantay Lake
Around 4:30 a.m. to 4:50 a.m., our staff will pick you up at the hotel, and then we will begin our journey to Humantay Lagoon.
Our trip will be by car to the town of Soraypampa, where Humantay Lagoon is located. It will take approximately 3 hours to reach the starting point of the hike. Along the way, we will pass through some small towns and enjoy the beautiful landscapes around us.
Upon arriving in the town of Mollepata, we will make a short stop for our buffet breakfast (included in the tour). After breakfast, we will continue towards Soraypampa (about 1 more hour by car), where our hike will begin. Once in Soraypampa, we will have some time to use the restroom, followed by an explanation about the hike. The guide will also provide information about the horses that can be rented (horse rental is not included in the package).
The hike to the top of the mountain (4,200 meters / 13,780 feet), where the lagoon is located, takes around 1 hour and 30 minutes. Upon arrival, you will be amazed by the turquoise color of Humantay Lagoon and the impressive Salkantay Mountain (6,300 meters / 20,669 feet) in the background. After taking photos and videos, we will begin our descent.
On the way back to Cusco, we will stop again in the town of Mollepata for our buffet lunch (included in the tour).
We will arrive in Cusco around 6:30 p.m.
Note: The hike to Humantay Lagoon is of high difficulty. It is not recommended for people with chronic respiratory problems or without adequate physical conditioning. We recommend that passengers have a few days of altitude acclimatization before taking this tour and avoid doing it in the first days of their stay.
